Why Leclerc sees ‘good opportunities’ for Ferrari in Miami

Charles Leclerc has given Ferrari a boost ahead of the Miami Grand Prix and insists this is a “good opportunity” to challenge Red Bull for a win.

Max Verstappen continued his 100 percent record of pole position success in 2024 around the Miami International Autodrome on Saturday.

However, the Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz start directly behind him in second and third place respectively.

Ferrari has already taken one race victory this year, with Sainz reaching the top step of the podium at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Italian side struggled with form last time out in China as they failed to make an impact at the front of the pitch.

When asked why he seems optimistic about his chances in Miami after the difficult round in China, Leclerc told the media, among other things RacingNews365: “In the sprint race alone we were a little closer to what we normally see.

“But I also said that Max wasn’t really happy with his car in the sprint race this morning.

“So we have to see how much step forward he takes tomorrow because he is happier with the car.”

With parc ferme conditions open after the shorter sprint race, Leclerc praised the step forward Ferrari made with its set-up, which he hopes will put pressure on Red Bull during the race.

“We’ve made some adjustments on our end,” he said. “We are also confident that we have taken a step forward. so we’ll see.

“But if we have a similar pace to this morning, I think you can always put a little more pressure with strategy.

“I hope that’s the case. We have the two cars in front, so this is a good opportunity.”

Sergio Perez’s second Red Bull car starts from fourth on the grid, behind the Ferrari pair.
